Introduction

The history of animation and animated cartoons begins with the earliest days of silent film and continues through the present day. The Internet and computers have added a new dimension to animation and cartooning with software that allows anyone to be able to make a cartoon or animation and a place to showcase or use the product.

But Why?

For what purpose are animations or cartoons created?

You and your team will try to discover the answer to this question. You will learn how animations are made and create one of your own.

Your animation or cartooon may be created for the school or a business. It may have an educational or instructive purpose. Or it may be just for entertainment. There are many different functions of animations or cartoons.

Eventually, you will be able to answer some of the following questions:

  • How are cartoons or animations created?
  • What are the elements of a cartoon or animation?
  • What are elements of design?
  • What is a storyboard?
  • What programs are available for making cartoons/animations? What other technological tools might be used in making cartoons/animations?
  • Why and how are copyright laws involved in cartoons and animations, if you are using material from other sources?
  • How have cartoons and animations changed our world?
  • When should cartoons or animations be used on the Internet and when should they not be used?
