WORD PROCESSING
Course No.: BUS 7301, BUS 7302, BUS 7303
Open to: Grades 9-12
Length/Credit: 2 trimesters – 2 credits

Description: This is a two-trimester course recommended for all high school students to give each student a basic skill in keyboarding/word processing. Whether you want to learn to type for personal use or as a basis for further education and/or employment in the business world, this is the class for you. Throughout the entire course students will work on personal computers on a daily basis. Students will work with a variety of computer software programs. Students enrolled in this class will increase their proficiency in using the touch-type method and will learn how to create research papers, business and personal letters, memos, tables, resumes, letters of application, and many other types of business correspondence. A Microsoft PowerPoint presentation is developed. You will also use graphics to create flyers, posters, newsletters, etc.

 

COMPUTERS AND MACHINES IN BUSINESS
Course No.: BUS 7503
Open to: Grades 9-12
Length/Credit: 1 trimester - 1 credit
Description: Do you like to explore computer programs? Like to work at your own pace? Like working on calculators? This course is for anyone interested in learning about various business machines, computers, and equipment for personal use, college purposes, or for a future business career. Emphasis will be placed on Excel, calculators, use of a scanner, digital camera and pocket PC’s/Palm Pilots, and voice-activated software. Students will have the option to work with other machines and programs as well.

 

MANAGING YOUR MONEY
Course No.: BUS 7512 or BUS 7513
Open to: Grades 10-12
Length/Credit: 1 trimester – 1 credit
Description: How do I open a checking account? Balance my checkbook? Set up a budget? What about a credit card? How do I do the math involved with this stuff? In this course you will learn about every day business transactions for the individual. Some of the areas we will explore are banking, credit, budgeting, consumer buying, the stock market, investments and most importantly, personal money management. Incorporated into this course will be various business math applications that will help you manage your financial affairs in the future.


ADVANCED WORD PROCESSING
Course No.: BUS 7541 or BUS 7543
Open to: Grades 10-12
Length/Credit: 1 trimester - 1 credit
Prerequisite: Word Processing
Description: This is a one-trimester course designed for furthering your word processing skills. Not only is word processing an important skill to possess if you are planning on a business-related career, but it has also become a necessary and excellent skill to have if you are planning to further your education. Most college professors today require research papers and class assignments to be done on computers. If you are interested in furthering your word processing skills, then set aside one trimester in your schedule for Advanced Word Processing. Class size is limited to 24 students per section.


LAW FOR PERSONAL BUSINESS
Course No.: BUS 7801
Open to: Grades 11-12
Length/Credit: 1 trimester - 1 credit

Description: As you near adulthood, it is your responsibility to be aware of the laws and the court system as they apply to you in your everyday life. In this course, you will study criminal law, civil law, apartment rental, contract law, juvenile law, the court system, and much more. Guest speakers from the law enforcement field will add insight to the laws of today and how they pertain to you. All students will be required to do a special project on one area of the legal profession.
